Bread from Stones*
Anyone tried to remineralize their soil? We may need all the nutrients we can get in the days or years ahead. Hello...... we probably need them right now eh?

Re: Bread from Stones*
My land gets re-mineralized every ten years or so by mother nature. I live on a flood plain beside a fast flowing mountain river, and when it floods, it puts down a new layer of sand. Sure makes the trees grow big and fast!

Eliot Coleman uses "greensand" but I doubt it's necessary. Soil builds itself as microbes break down the organic and rock/silica components natuarlly. Look at a forest--once that was a glacial till and there wasn't anybody around to make it viable. It did just fine.
Pulling fruits, etc, it'd have to be 1,000 years before you'd actually run short. Just let the ground run fallow with deep-rooted plants like clover, radish, burdock, trees, etc, and they'll pull up plenty. Don't worry--nature doesn't need your help. Just sit back and enjoy while she does the work! TS |
